Magdalena Leite

Magdalena Leite, artista coreógrafa interesada en los límites y cruces entre la imagen en movimiento, el cuerpo en vivo, la escritura y la historia. Desde 2013 trabaja en colaboración con Aníbal Conde.

Su obra Escucha Radical es la ganadora del 1er Premio Adquisición del 61º Premio Nacional de Artes Visuales del Ministerio de Educación y Cultura 2024, Montevideo (UY).

Su obra Debajo de las palabras, la playa resulta seleccionada para el 52º Premio Montevideo de Artes Visuales 2025 de la Intendencia de Montevideo (UY).

Su proyecto El cuerpo en el museo resulta ganador del concurso de creación, investigación y archivo Pimentón 2024 del Centro Cultural de España en Montevideo (UY).

Su obra se ha presentado en lugares como la Judson Church en Nueva York (US), el Akbank Sanat en Estambul (TR), el Centro de Arte 2 de Mayo CA2M y el Museo Reina Sofía en Madrid (ES), el Museo de Arte Contemporáneo MUAC en la Ciudad de México (MX), el Tictac Art Centre en Bruselas (BE), el festival Dañsfabrik en Brest (FR), la Venice International Performance Art Week en Venecia (IT), entre otros.

Fueron curadores de las Picnic Sessions del CA2M en Madrid en 2018 y 2019 y residentes de La Casa Encendida y el CA2M en Madrid, y Movement Research en Nueva York.

Llevan una columna a cuatro manos en la revista Intervalo.

Su obra Leviathan fue seleccionada para el 60º Premio Nacional de Artes Visuales de Uruguay y por el coreógrafo Jérôme Bel para Dañsfabrik 2022 en  Brest (FR), realizada con el apoyo del Sistema Nacional de Creadores de Arte del Fonca, México (MX). 

En 2023 reciben la invitación de la compañía R.B Jérôme Bel para realizar la versión uruguaya de la obra Jérôme Bel, presentada en la Sala Vaz Ferreira en 2023 en el marco del FIDCU y en la Sala Hugo Balzo con producción independiente en 2024.

Ha publicado textos en libros y revistas como La Tempestad (MX), se desempeñó como Asistente Grado 2 de la Licenciatura en Danza de la UDELAR (UY), Miembro del SNCA Coreografía 2018-2021 (MX), beneficiaria de la beca danceWEB del ImpulsTanz en Viena (AT) y beneficiaria de la Beca Justino Zavala Muniz 2021-22 (UY).

Es una de las jurados de la convocatoria Pimentón del Centro Cultural de España 2025 (UY); fue jurado de ENARTES 2022 del Sistema de Apoyos a la Creación y Proyectos Culturales Fonca (MX); de los Fondos Concursables edición 2022 del MEC (UY); de preselección de las Residencias Bellagio 2020 de la Fundación Rockefeller y Fundación Jumex (MX), entre otros. Es miembro del Colectivo AM, grupo de acción y reflexión en torno a la danza contemporánea.

Se encuentra cursando la Maestría en Arte y Cultura Visual de la UDELAR 2025 (UY). Es Máster en Práctica Escénica y Cultura Visual por la Universidad de Castilla La Mancha (ES). Es Licenciada en Coreografía por el Centro de las Artes CNA (MX). Cuenta con el DUEF Diploma Universitario de Estudios Franceses opción Literatura por la Universidad Paris 3 Sorbonne Nouvelle (FR).

Magdalena Leite, choreographer and artist, is interested in the boundaries and intersections between the moving image, the live body, writing and history. Her work has been presented in South America, North America, and Europe. Since 2013 she works in collaboration with Aníbal Conde.

Their work Radical Listening is the winner of the 1st Price of the 61st National Visual Arts Award by the Ministry of Education and Culture 2024, Montevideo (UY).

Her work Under the words, the beach is selected for the 52nd Montevideo Visual Arts Prize 2025 of the Montevideo City Government (UY).

Her project The Body in the Museum won the Pimentón creation, research, and archive competition by the Cultural Center of Spain in Montevideo (UY). Her choreographic presentation Radical Listening was selected for the 1st Research in Arts Congress of ARTEA, at the University of Castilla-La Mancha, Cuenca (ES).

Among her works are Radical Listening performed at Cine Tonalá (MX) in June 2024 and selected for Surge Madrid Festival 2024 (ES); The Time Machine selected for the IM Strengthening Program, MEC Work Circulation, and Nuestra Dance Festival (UY); and Leviathan selected for the Surge Madrid Festival 2023 (ES), for the 60th National Visual Arts Award (UY), and by choreographer Jérôme Bel for Dañsfabrik 2022 in Brest (FR), made with the support of the National System of Art Creators of Fonca, Mexico (MX).

Her work has been presented in places such as La X Muestra Surge Madrid 2023 (ES); the Dañsfabrik festival 2022 in Brest (FR); the Venice International Performance Art Week 2020 in Venice (IT); the Centro de Artes 2 de Mayo CA2M, Teatro Pradillo, Réplika Teatro, Sala DT, and Museo Reina Sofía in Madrid, Sala Hiroshima in Barcelona, Espacio Normal in La Coruña, Centro del Carmen in Valencia (ES); Akbank Sanat Center in Istanbul (TR); Judson Church in New York (US); Museo del Chopo, Teatro de la Ciudad, and Museo de Arte Contemporáneo MUAC in Mexico City (MX), and Teatro Solís, EAC, and Subte de Montevideo (UY) among others.

In 2023, she received an invitation from the R.B Jérôme Bel company to stage a Spanish version of the work Jérôme Bel and collaborated on the choreography for The Threepenny Opera a production by El Galpón, La Comedia Nacional, and the Montevideo Symphony Band (UY) directed by David Gaitán (MX). She was a guest curator in 2018 and 2019 for the Picnic Sessions Festival at CA2M in Madrid (ES); resident at La Casa Encendida and CA2M (ES); and a resident at Movement Research in New York (US). She has published texts in books and magazines such as La Tempestad (MX), is an Assistant Professor (Grade 2) for the Bachelor of Dance at UdelaR (UY), a member of SNCA Choreography 2019-2021 (MX), a recipient of the danceWEB scholarship at ImpulsTanz in Vienna (AT), and a recipient of the Justino Zavala Muniz Scholarship 2021-22 (UY). She is one of the jurors of the Pimentón call from the Cultural Center of Spain 2025 (UY); juror of ENARTES 2022 of the System of Support for Creation and Cultural Projects Fonca (MX); of the Contest Funds 2022 of the MEC (UY); of the preselection of the Bellagio 2020 Residences of the Rockefeller Foundation and Fundación Jumex (MX), among others. She writes a collaborative column for Intervalo magazine by Escaramuza (UY). She is a member of Colectivo AM, a group focused on action and reflection around contemporary dance.

Ongoing MA in Art and Visual Culture at UDELAR 2025 (UY). She holds a Master’s in Performing Arts and Visual Culture from the University of Castilla-La Mancha (ES). She has a Bachelor’s degree in Choreography from the CNA Arts Center (MX).
